  • Effects of Rahu Ketu Transit 2011 on 12 Zodiac Signs

Posted on May 26, 2011 by pariharadotcom

Rahu & Ketu, the two Nodes of the Moon, take about 19 months to transit through a sign. Rahu enters in Scorpio on 6th June 2011 and it will stay there up to 22nd Dec 2012. During this tenure, Ketu will be in Taurus. They're unique in the sense that they're always transiting retrograde, indicating Karma from previous lives. Rahu & Ketu are the mysterious unseen points in space causing the eclipses. They're not technically planets but their influence is so significant that they're given the status of planets (grahas) in vedic astrology. These two are next in importance to the other two planets -Jupiter and Saturn. These four are the slowest moving planets and require maximum attention when they are in transit.

No planet is 100% malefic (bad). The transit effects depend on how we respond to the favorable & unfavorable situations. Rahu has a positive side, offering g... Read More

  • The significance of observing Pradosham

Posted on May 26, 2011 by pariharadotcom

    PRADOSHAM

    The story behind Pradosham:

Saint Dhurvasa came to Devaloka with a garland of flowers that was offered to Lord Siva and gave it to Indra. Indra disrespectfully placed it over an elephant’s trunk and the elephant threw the garland aside and walked over it. Seeing this Saint Dhurvasa got angry. He said that Indra had committed this mistake due to his arrogance and cursed him saying that he would lose his wealth, power and position. Since the Devas lost power, the asuras gained an upper hand. They tortured the Devas. They waged a war against the Devas. As they were weak the Devas lost to them.

Having lost everything the Devas went to Lord Vishnu and pleaded to Him to save them. Lord Vishnu suggested that they should consume the divine nectar – Amirtham as consuming this shall make the consum... Read More

Half of the success is assured if your start is good. This is exactly the same principle behind the Vishu Kani for the Malayalees. • How to Celebrate Tamil New Year (Chitrai Thirunazh)

How to Celebrate Tamil New Year (Chitrai Thirunazh)

Chithirai Thirunazh, marks the first day of the Tamil and Malayalam calendar. Being a Palakkad Brahmin, I’ve had the privilege to enjoy the best of both worlds. The preparations for Chithirai Thirunazh, start with the Chariot festival. Having spent a majority of my childhood vacations at Madurai, I’ve witnessed many such festivities. The 8th day of Chithirai is known as ‘Digvijayam’, and on this day, a flag is hoisted. Two days after this, ‘Meenakshi Kalyanam’ takes place, and finally, a long procession called ‘Azhagar Aathula Erangardhu’* is celebrated with pomp and ostentation. On 14th evening, the Vishukani is set up. This primarily consists of a bowl of rice adorned with fruits (traditionally, Mangoes, Pineapple ... Read More
