This temple is a model of the one at tirupathi and is located along the eastern banks of River Cauvery in Erode district formerly a part of Kongu nadu and hence its name Kongu tirupathi or Kongu nattu tirupathi.

It is believed to be the 12th of the 108 Divya desams. Every vaishnavite aspires to visit each of these Divya desams, of which 105 are in India and 1 in Nepal. The other two are believed to be in the non-physical world which a devotee hopes to visit after he leaves his mortal form.

In Kongunaattu tirupathi, Lord Hanuman takes the form of Anjali Anjaneya with his form, having three eyes and ten arms. It is a custom here to pray lord Venkateshwara only after offering prayers to lord Anjaneya present.

Every tamil new year, the Chittirai thirunaal (also called as Bramhotsav) is celebrated with grandeur when thousands of worshippers throng to offer their prayers to the supreme deity, lord Venkateshwara.

Also, every saturday of the tamil month Purattaasi (roughly falls in the month of September-October) is also considered auspicious and a lot of devotees turn up to gain a sight of the lord in his grand form.
