The Navagrahasthalam associated with Mars (called Mangalagraha or Angaraka in Sanskrit and Sevvai or Kujan in Tamil) is located at the Vaideeswaran temple near Sirkazhi in Tamilnadu. The temple has a shrine dedicated to Mars where a bronze murti of Angaraka graha is worshipped. The bronze image is taken out in procession on a goat mount (vahana) every Tuesday. Angaaraka is described as a fiery planet of martial character and red in complexion. Mars is regarded as the son of Mother Earth in Indian tradition and Lord Murugan or Subramanya is the presiding deity for this planet.
Prayers offered to Angaraka are said to bestow valour, victory and strength. People who are Manglik i.e. have Kuja Dosha in their horoscope (Mars placed in 7th house from the ascendant or eying the 7th house), are advised to offer worship here to overcome delay in marriage and conflicts in marital life. Mars is also considered as the presiding deity for Rina (debts). People who are bound in debt and are unable to repay loans for a long time also offer prayers to Angaraka as parihara to be freed from debts. People who desire to own a house and those involved in real estate business should particularly seek the grace of Mars for success in their endeavours.
The Kartika month is of special significance here and all festivals associated with Lord Murugan or Subramanya like Skanda Shashti are celebrated with grandeur.
